Tipping culture in India varies by context: 5–10% is typical at mid-range restaurants, 10–15% at upscale restaurants, and service charges are often automatically included in fine dining (look for "service charge" in your bill before adding extra tip).

Important note on service charges in India: CCPA (Consumer Affairs Ministry) guidelines clarify that service charge is NOT mandatory and customers can request its removal. If your bill includes 10% service charge (common in restaurants), you are not obligated to tip additionally. However, voluntary tipping is encouraged for excellent service, especially when servers work hard.
